About me

Carey Hagan has had experience with a wide range of library core areas, from reference to research, to cataloging and collection development, in addition to library instruction. From January to March 2004, Carey Hagan interned at the Library of Congress’ Technical Processing and Automation Instruction Office (TPAIO) while studying for an M.S. in Library and Information Science at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. While at the Library of Congress, Carey Hagan worked as an Instructor and Course Designer to other librarians. After observing and aiding Library of Congress instructors, Carey Hagan helped redesign existing research and database courses. She also designed and taught her own course about using the web-based FirstSearch OCLC service to the library’s staff. Before earning her M.S. from The Catholic University of America, Carey Hagan earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia in the dual disciplines of English Language and Literature and Russian Language and Literature. In her junior year at UVA, Carey Hagan participated in a study-abroad program, spending a year at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. A member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Carey Hagan also wrote an honors thesis while at UVA. After receiving her B.A., Carey Hagan spent seven years teaching English to middle school and high school students in northern New Jersey and northern Virginia. Upon completing her M.S., Carey Hagan began working as a Cataloger at The Catholic University of America’s Mullen Library. Currently, Carey Hagan works as a Librarian at Fairfax County Public Library, where she contributes as a member of the reference staff and acts as a librarian who participates in children’s programming, early literacy, and storytimes. In her spare time, Carey Hagan also writes a blog about youth and young adult literature called BooktalkThree.
